Charles, a 6-foot-5, 315-pound offensive guard living in Mississippi, committed to LSU on Tuesday in an announcement on Twitter.

Charles, a New Orleans native displaced after Hurricane Katrina, pledged to the Tigers among offers from Mississippi State, Arkansas State, Cincinnati and Southern Miss. The three-star prospect is ranked as the 21st offensive guard in the 2017 class, according to 247Sports.com, and he continues LSU’s commitment streak.

Charles is in his first season at Madison-Ridgeland Academy, a private school north of Jackson, Mississippi. He’s the fifth player to give a verbal, non-binding pledge to LSU over the last five days. Texas tackle Austin Deculus started the steak Friday.

Mississippi junior college receiver Stephen Guidry and Georgia fullback Tory Carter committed during the program’s Bayou Picnic event Saturday, moving the Tigers’ 2017 commit class into the top 10 nationally. Catholic High defensive end Aaron Moffitt, the son of LSU strength and conditioning coach Tommy Moffitt, committed on Monday.

Charles is the 12th commitment in the group, the fifth from out of state and the third on the offensive line, joining Deculus and Texas guard Edward Ingram. The class, now ranked No. 3 in 247Sports’ composite team rankings, is shaping into one of the nation’s best, with five commitments ranked inside the top 10 at their respected positions. The Tigers are on pace for a fifth straight top-10 class and a fourth straight top-5 class in 247Sports’ composite team rankings – an unparalleled run for the program.
