An LSU native with extensive college and professional coaching experience is joining the LSU women's basketball staff as an assistant coach, LSU announced Tuesday.

The hiring is subject to approval by the LSU Board of Supervisors.

Mickie DeMoss, known in coaching circles as the "godmother of assistant coaches," has previously served as an assistant for Pat Summit at the University of Tennessee, as head coach at the University of Kentucky and as an assistant with the WNBA's Indiana Fever.

She joins head coach Nikki Fargas' Lady Tigers after serving the previous two years as the associate head coach at her alma mater Louisiana Tech University.

“Mickie has written the book on what it takes to be the best assistant coach in women’s college basketball,” Fargas said.

“Mickie’s love for the state of Louisiana makes her the perfect fit for our staff,” she said. “She is not only a native, but she has coached here in the state. We are also excited because she has always been known as one of the top recruiters in the country and she has the ability to train student-athletes for that next level of professional basketball.”
