The LSU football team finished a week of honors with even more Friday.

Junior linebacker Kendell Beckwith and senior safety Jalen Mills were named to the Bronko Nagurski Trophy watch list, an award for the defensive player of the year. Beckwith and Mills earlier this week were named to the watch list for the Bednarik Award, also given to the defensive player of the year.

Senior guard Vadal Alexander was named to the Outland Trophy watch list, an award given annually to the nation’s best interior lineman on offense or defense. Alexander brings to six the number of LSU players named to watch lists this week.

Eighty-eight players were named to the Nagurski watch list. More can be added each week during the season.

Mills begins his second season as a starter at safety after spending his first two seasons as a starting cornerback. In 2014, Mills finished with 62 tackles, five pass deflections, three tackles for loss, two quarterback hurries, one interception and one fumble recovery.

Beckwith, who started the final seven games of the 2014 season, enters his first full season as the starting middle linebacker. He is LSU’s top returning tackler with 77 stops, including 7.5 tackles for a loss, two sacks, three pass breakups, two quarterback hurries, two fumble recoveries and one interception that he returned 29 yards for a touchdown.

Alexander, who like Mills considered leaving early for the NFL draft before deciding to return, is one of 82 players on the Outland Trophy watch list. Also named to the Outland Trophy watch list were Louisiana Tech defensive tackle Vernon Butler and Louisiana-Monroe defensive tackle Gerrand Johnson.

Johnson also was named to the Nagurski Trophy watch list, along with Louisiana Tech defensive back Xavier Woods.
