Spring movement: HIGH

Ed Paris is a safety now, something that began to happen midway through last season.

Of course movement is high here, a place where LSU lost three starters: Adams, Thomas and White.

Battle and Jackson appear to have their spots secure, but everything else seems up for grabs, especially that safety position opposite Battle. It might be the most hotly competitive spot of the spring and of preseason camp. A rotation of guys could see first-string snaps there, including rookies like Stevens.

Paris' transition to safety appears complete. It's something that slowly began in the middle of last season. But can he hold down the spot? He'll be pushed hard by talented second-year guys Lewis and Monroe, third-year player Xavier Lewis and rookies, too.

The corner spot opposite Jackson and the nickelback spot should see fierce battles also. Smith worked his way into the rotation as LSU's No. 3 CB behind White and Jackson by the end of last season, as Toliver slipped down the pecking order. Last year, Toliver battled injuries and, according to Ed Orgeron, a consistency issue that he hopes has been solved.

The nickel spot is uncertain, and that depth chart above is just our best guess. Fulton saw time in practice last season at the spot. Both he and Lewis played behind Thomas.

Fall expectation

The Tigers will add three defensive backs for preseason camp: safety Todd Harris and cornerbacks Jontre Kirklin and Kary Vincent.

That trio will be behind the mid-year enrollees Stevens and Delpit, but you never know what can happen in preseason camp. That said, LSU's secondary is likely to be mostly solidified by the spring game.
