After being recognized as the SEC Defensive Player of the Week on Monday, LSU redshirt freshman defender Jodi Calloway was named to the Soccer America Women’s National Team of the Week following her MVP performance at the LSU Invitational last weekend

Calloway is the sixth LSU player to be selected to a Soccer America Women’s National Team of the Week.

Calloway led a defensive effort that surrendered just one goal in two matches in a 1-0 shutout of Oregon on Friday and a 1-1 draw with No. 13-ranked Pepperdine on Sunday.


CONSTRUCTION UNDERWAY ON NEW SUITES IN ALEX BOX STADIUM: Construction is under way on new premium seating in Alex Box Stadium that includes eight suites and 48 terrace seats. The new seating will be located on the third level of the stadium adjacent to the existing suites.

The project is set to be completed for the Tigers’ season opener Feb. 17 against Air Force.

The new construction will increase the stadium’s suite total from 19 to 27, and total seating capacity will rise from 10,150 to 10,326.

FUNERAL SERVICES SET FOR FORMER LSU OUTFIELDER TERRY BELLE: Funeral services for former LSU outfielder Terry Belle will be held at 10 a.m. Saturday at Galilee Baptist Church in Shreveport.

Belle, 45, died Saturday in an automobile accident in Paradise Valley, Ariz. The Shreveport native played at LSU from 1985-88, earning three letters.

Belle played in 135 games during his LSU career, batting .276 with 13 doubles, three triples, 11 homers and 65 runs batted in.

Belle’s twin brother, Albert, played at LSU from 1985-87.
