SPRING INSHORE SHRIMP SEASONS: All areas subject to closure by order of the secretary of the Department of Wildlife and Fisheries: Seasons open in State Shrimp Zone 1 (Louisiana-Mississippi line to the eastern shore of South Pass of the Mississippi River); State Shrimp Zone 3 (Vermilion Bay west to Louisiana-Texas line); State Shrimp Zone 2 (portions of waters in Barataria, lower Timbalier and Terrebonne bays and Lake Pelto; all other areas from South Pass of the Mississippi River west to Vermilion Bay are closed or will be closed Monday, July 11).

OPEN—RECREATIONAL RED SNAPPER SEASON: State & federal waters, Gulf of Mexico. Through 12:01 a.m. July 19. Daily limits 2 red snapper, minimum of 16 inches long.

CLOSED—RECREATIONAL GREATER AMBERJACK SEASON: All waters, Gulf of Mexico. Through July 31.

Due to budget cuts, state parks’ entrance hours are 8 a.m.-5 p.m. Sundays-Thursdays and, Fridays and Saturdays at 6 a.m. for parks with boat launches, a 7 a.m. for parks without boat launches.

Continued high water has pushed wildlife from its habitat in floodways and swamps. The Department of Wildlife and Fisheries asks citizens to minimize their contact with displaced animals. OPEN/CLOSED WMAS & REFUGES

Effective July 1, the Department of Wildlife & Fisheries reopened these wildlife management areas after flooding threats abated along the Mississippi and Atchafalaya rivers:

-  Attakapas WMA (Iberia/St. Martin/St. Mary parishes); Three Rivers WMA (Concordia Parish); Grassy Lake WMA (Avoyelles Parish) except Cas Cas Road. The Bayou Des Sot bridge has been repaired.

-  The South Farm (Iberville Parish) portion of Sherburne WMA to ATV and walk-in traffic. The rest of the WMA is closed until further notice.

-  Until further notice: Parts of Dewey Wills WMA, and the Atchafalaya National Wildlife Refuge and the Bonnet Carre Spillway Area remain closed.
