Red snapper issues top the agenda for the Jan. 26-29 Gulf of Mexico Fishery Management Council meeting set for the Marriott Grand Hotel in Point Clear, Alabama.

The council’s Data Collection Committee will convene at 8:30 a.m. Jan. 26 to discuss reporting for the new charter boat reporting system for red snapper, and the Reef Fish Management Committee is scheduled to hear the latest red snapper assessment then review of the red snapper recreational management plan (Amendment 39) and a “revised public hearing draft of Amendment 28, Red Snapper Allocation.”

Public comment on Amendment 28 and final action on adjustments to the recreational for-hire (charterboats) red snapper management are set for 1:30 p.m. Jan. 28 with full council action set for 8:30 a.m. Jan. 29.
