The Department of Wildlife and Fisheries’ announced Friday the reopening of State Deer Area 8 Saturday to deer hunters for the remainder of the season.
While the modern firearms season is closed, hunters can use primitive firearms through Sunday (Jan. 31), then can hunt through Feb. 15, the end of the either-sex archery season.
The reopened area takes in parts of Iberia, Iberville, St. Martin and St. Mary parishes south of I-10, north of U.S. 90 and inside the East Guide and West Guide levees of the Atchafalaya Basin. the reopening of area 9 goes here
The move comes after the Atchafalaya River fell below the 18-foot reading on the Butte LaRose gauge, a level that triggered the closure three weeks ago.
