So your boss is after you to get your vacation dates in for 2016, and you’ve been waiting for the proposed hunting season dates from Wildlife and Fisheries for the 2016-2017 season.

Wait no longer: The dates were announced during Thursday’s Wildlife and Fisheries Commission meeting. The bonus next season is that duck, goose and migratory-bird dates were listed, too.

For deer hunters, there will be bucks-only limitations and either-sex hunting built into certain archery and modern firearms seasons. The dates listed do not list these exceptions, only the seasons for archery, primitive weapons and modern firearms seasons.

Notable deer-season changes are that Deer Area 5, listed for West Carroll Parish only for the 2015-2016 season, has been moved into Deer Area 1, and a new Deer Area 5 has been created for the Atchafalaya Basin.

Resident-game season dates are derived from the permanent Wildlife and Fisheries’ resident-game hunting calendar. While final ratification on these dates are four months away, there usually are few changes made to the announced dates.
