No matter your age, Step Outside is a day made for all outdoors folks, and it’s coming Saturday at the Sherburne Wildlife Management Area.

Show up at 9 a.m. — everything shuts down at 3 p.m. — at Sherburne’s headquarters near the launch ramp on Big Alabama Bayou, and there will be enough activities to keep you busy throughout those six hours.

There’s no fee, and refreshments and lunch will be provided. The folks at Wildlife and Fisheries prohibit alcoholic beverages.

Sherburne’s address is 1132 Sherburne Road, Lottie. Directions: From U.S. 190 take the Sherburne exit at La. 975 and drive south about three miles; from Interstate 10 take the Whiskey Bay exit and drive north about 13 miles on La. 975.

LDWF manager and event organizer Tony Vidrine said the state has scheduled activities like water safety, pontoon boat rides, canoeing, target and trap shooting, fishing and archery, along with educational exhibits for the Louisiana black bear and other wildlife and fisheries species native to south Louisiana.

Children will be able to build a blue bird box and receive instruction for calling ducks and turkeys.

All equipment will be provided for all activities.
