Southern’s loss to the No. 7-ranked team in the FBS dropped the Jaguars from No. 4 to No. 6 in the coaches poll of Historically Black Colleges and Universities on Monday.

The 48-6 loss at Georgia last Saturday didn’t affect Southern in the media poll as the Jaguars stayed at No. 7.

The top spots in both polls remained unchanged as Alcorn State is atop the coaches poll for the third consecutive week and North Carolina A&T is No. 1 in media poll for the

second straight week and for the third time this season.

The Braves whipped Concordia-Selma 40-7 and stretched their lead over the second-place Aggies, who didn’t play last week, by two points in the coaches poll. Alcorn received 18-of-19 first place votes.

Three teams debuted in the media poll as Grambling came in at No. 9 after a 70-54 victory against Prairie View and Bowie State and Virginia Union were tied at No. 10.

The BOXTOROW HBCU FCS coaches and media polls are administered by FROM THE PRESS BOX TO PRESS ROW. The coaches poll is voted on by the HBCU Football Championship Subdivision coaches and the media poll is voted on by media members around the country who cover HBCU football.
