HOUSTON — Jackson State scored an early goal and made it hold up to eliminate Western Division champion Southern 1-0 in the semifinals of the SWAC soccer tournament Friday at Houston Amateur Sports Park.

JSU (9-9-2) advances to its fifth Southwestern Athletic Conference title game overall and second straight. Eroncia Berry recorded the goal in the 12th minute.

For Southern (8-9-2), Simone Arthur posted two shots on goal, while Kerinn Hall (8-7-2) tallied eight saves.

JSU will meet Alabama State, a 2-1 winnner over Prairie View, at 11 a.m. Sunday in the title game.
