The Jaguars return to a single session of practice Friday after going through their first two-a-day practices of fall camp Thursday. Southern will practice 8:50-11 a.m. on the practice field adjacent to A.W. Mumford Stadium. Practice is open to the public.
NUMBER TO KNOW
Number of rushing yards Southern’s defense surrendered per game last year, ranking last in the Southwestern Athletic Conference.
“If you’re going to be successful, any defensive coordinator will tell you that you’ve got to stop the run. If a team can run the ball on you, there’s no need to throw it. It keeps the clock moving and wears your defense out. We know that we can’t give up the yardage we gave up last year if we’re going to be successful. We have to put emphasis on stopping the run.”
— Dawson Odums, Southern defensive coordinator
