COLLEGE STATION, Texas — Courtney Williams scored 18 points, and No. 13 Texas A&M used a smothering defense in the second half to coast to an 88-47 win over Southern on Sunday.
Jordan Jones added 15 points, Anriel Howard 13, Courtney Walker 11 and Chelsea Jennings 10 for the Aggies (2-0).
Texas A&M was up 49-34 at halftime and then held the Jaguars (1-1) to 13 points in the second half on 12 percent shooting (4-for-34). At one stretch in the second half, Southern missed 12 straight shots and 19 of 20.
The Aggies went 25-of-36 from the foul line while Southern was 11-of-18. A&M scored 31 points off of 25 turnovers.
The Aggies had 47-40 rebounding advantage and dominated inside with 34 points in the paint to six for Southern.
Cortnei Purnell had 16 points for Southern.
