In a final tune-up before Southwestern Athletic Conference play begins Monday, Southern will host Ecclesia, an 0-11 Christian-based University focusing on religious studies in Springdale, Arkansas, at 1 p.m. Friday at the F.G. Clark Activity Center.

The Jaguars have had nine days off since an 80-60 loss at No. 18 Baylor on Dec. 20. Southern (3-9) dropped all nine of its non-conference road games and has won each of its three home games, against Tennessee-Martin, Wiley College from the NAIA and Florida A&M.

Southern shot 37.5 percent from the floor against Baylor and made just two 3s in 15 attempts. The Jaguars forced Baylor into 21 turnovers and surrendered only six.

Forward Jared Sam posted a team-high 21 points in the loss, his fifth 20-point outing this season. Sam is shooting 42.2 percent from the floor this season and has hit double-figure scoring in 10 of 12 games.

"This Southern team is a team that has played a lot of people close," Baylor coach Scott Drew said following Southern's loss. "Duke was a single-digit game and ended up being 17.

"There is a reason Southern and Texas Southern have been the two teams from the SWAC to get into the NCAA tournament."
