HOUSTON — Jami Blackston had a hat trick to lead Southern to a 3-0 win over Alabama A&M in the first game of the Southwestern Athletic Conference Soccer tournament Thursday at Houston Amateur Park.

With the win, Southern (8-8-2, 4-0-1) moves on to its first semifinal appearance since 2011. Southern will face Jackson State, a 4-0 winner over Texas Southern, at 3 p.m. Friday.

Aleia Longoria contributed two assists to help Blackston put up points in the 26th and 60th minutes. Nancy Salas assisted Blackston at the 79th minute to close out the match.

SU had 12 shots, and Kerinn Hall (8-6-2,4-0-1) recorded her sixth shutout of the season with two saves.

AAMU (1-15-3, 0-3-2) was eliminated with the loss. Ester Martinez led the Lady Bulldogs with two of their four shots on goal, and Marissa Oehler had five saves.
