The Southern baseball team’s home opener against Jackson State was postponed from Tuesday to Wednesday because of rain.

Heavy rain soaked Lee-Hines Field on Monday and was forecast to continue into Tuesday. The makeup is scheduled for 6 p.m. Wednesday.

The postponement gives the Jaguars an extra day to recover from a rough opening weekend. Southern was swept in three games against Grambling, Louisiana Tech and Alcorn State by a combined score of 36-2 in the MLB Urban Youth Academy Invitational at Wesley Barrow Stadium.

Grambling and Louisiana Tech beat the Jaguars by the run rule after seven innings, winning 15-0 each time. Alcorn State won 6-2 on Sunday.

The game against Jackson State is Southern’s only game scheduled at Lee-Hines Field before March 18.
