BIRMINGHAM — Southern garnered two individual honors at the Southwestern Athletic Conference Indoor Track and Field Championships over the weekend at the Birmingham Crossplex.

SU’s Dwayne Houston and Kashima Weary were named Top Male and Female Field performers for the meet.

Houston scored 20 points overall for the Jaguars, winning the shot put and the weight throw.

Weary scored 14 points, finishing second in the weight throw and third in the shot put.

In the team competition, Prairie View dethroned two-time defending champion Grambling State, finishing with 132 points.

Grambling was second with 89 while Southern finished sixth with 76.

On the women’s side, Alabama State piled up 218 points, far ahead of second place Prairie View which finished with 155. Southern was a distant third with 56.
