PISCATAWAY, N.J. — Chelsey Lee scored a career-high 21 points as the Rutgers women’s basketball team won its third straight game with a 63-49 victory over Southern on Wednesday night.

Lee and fellow senior Monique Oliver excelled around the goal, combining for 37 points in the Scarlet Knights’ 14-point win.

Lee, in her best performance since returning from a shoulder injury last season, scored 13 of her 21 points in the first 30 minutes.

Rutgers (6-3) heads into its second matchup with a top 25 opponent this season, hosting Miami on Sunday.

Southern, meanwhile, remains winless at 0-9.

Adrian Sanders had a team-high 12 points for the Jaguars, who shot 38 percent from the floor but attempted only nine free throws, making four of them.

Southern got 10 points from Yasmin Fuller and eight points from Laneisha Stephens, who grabbed a team-high four rebounds.

The Jaguars trailed by 13 points at halftime, 40-27, but pulled to within nine points when Kendra Coleman scored on a fast break with 8:04 remaining.

But the Jaguars didn’t score another field goal the rest of the way and collected only two points from the line.

Rutgers recorded the next seven points and ended the game on a 7-2 run for the final 14-point margin.

Lee finished the game for Rutgers shooting 8-of-12 from the field and a perfect 5-of-5 from the line.

The Scarlet Knights outrebounded Southern 45-24 — their largest margin of the season. Oliver and sophomore Betnijah Laney led the Scarlet Knights with six rebounds apiece.

The Scarlet Knights’ homestand continues at 4:30 p.m. Sunday.

The Jaguars will return to Baton Rouge for a Monday game against Southeastern Louisiana — their last home game before Southwestern Athletic Conference play begins in Jan. 2.
