Toledo, Ohio — SIU Edwardsville scored 16 straight points spanning the halves, then held on in the final seconds to keep the Southern women’s basketball team winless with a 55-53 victory in the consolation game of the Glass City Tournament on Sunday afternoon.

Trailing by two, the Jaguars (0-7) had a pair of possessions in the final 10 seconds to tie or take the lead, but they ended in a turnover by Adrian Sanders and a missed 3-pointer at the buzzer by Yasmin Fuller.

Sanders paced SU with 14 points; Kendra Coleman added 13.

SIUE (4-4) used a 16-0 run over seven minutes spanning the halves to turn a 30-18 deficit into a 34-30 lead. After that, Southern forged a pair of ties (at 40-40 and 42-42) but never led again.

With 14 points, Raven Berry was SIUE’s only scorer in double digits.

SU is next in action Dec. 10 at Fordham.
