CHAMPAIGN, Ill. — The Southern women’s basketball team was held without a field goal for more than 11 minutes of the second half Sunday as Illinois rallied to a 62-42 victory at the State Farm Center.
Illinois (4-0) used a 21-1 run during that drought to take command. Stretching it back to the first half, Illinois pieced together a 36-6 run over 16-plus minutes of game action, turning a nine-point deficit into a 21-point lead. In that stretch, Southern was 1-of-21 from the field and had nine turnovers.
The Jaguars (1-3) got 16 points on 4-of-13 shooting from Kendra Coleman. Britney Washington added 10 points and seven rebounds for Southern, which visits another Big Ten foe, Minnesota, at 7 p.m. Tuesday.
Chatrice White had 14 points and 12 rebounds to pace Illinois. Jacqui Grant added 14 points, and Ivory Crawford had 12.
