On Saturday, Nov. 29, at the Blackham Coliseum in Lafayette, Gladiators Academy hosted Collision at the Coliseum 4. All in all, it was a great night for fights with Gladiators going 5-1 overall and its amateurs showing up with an impressive 5-0. Gladiators improved their overall amateur record to 81-16. Cowboy Combat Club of Stillwater, Okla. also had an exciting showing going 2-0 for the night.
In the small college town of Hammond, there could not have been more excitement on the night of Friday, Nov. 21. It was fight night as the Xtreme Fighting Championship came to Chevy’s. All in all, it was a great night of fights with some vicious knockouts and not one fight going past the Second Round. On Friday, Nov. 21, 30 mixed martial arts fighters from across Louisiana and Texas will put their talents on display at Chevy’s night club in Hammond. There will be a total of 15 fights in all, with a mix of amateur and pro bouts. One could only imagine what was going through the mind of Frank Mir after Brock Lesnar defeated Randy Couture in the Ultmate Fighting Championship’s UFC 91 on Saturday, Nov. 15. Mir defeated Lesnar by submission in his last fight, but could be facing Lesnar again for the title if he defeats Antonio Nogueira. Some don’t think it’s fair that Lesnar got the title shot instead of Nogueira, but like it or not, it’s all business. In what is being promoted as the biggest main event in mixed martial arts (MMA) history, it would be hard to argue that it’s not, no matter what you think about these two. Randy “The Natural” Couture, the current heavyweight champion, despite coming back from an abrupt and controversial retirement, is looking for victory and may be hoping for two more fights to end his career. In just over four years Gladiators Academy has become the premier training facility for mixed martial arts (MMA) in the Gulf South. In this time, the gym has amassed an overall amateur record of 73-14 and put four fighters in the Ultimate Fighting Championship (UFC). |
