Bennigan’s Grill and Tavern at the Mall of Louisiana is designed to resemble an Irish pub, but the menu is much more diverse. Diners will find everything from American fare (club sandwiches and burgers) to quesadillas and Cajun chicken and shrimp pasta.
Acme Oyster House is the kind of restaurant that makes you want to shout. Sometimes, it’s to praise the meal. More often, it’s merely to be heard. We’re not sure if Acme was aiming — as some restaurants do — to create an energized atmosphere through acoustics that allow sound to build. LongHorn Steakhouse has been “packin’ ‘em in,” as they say, since it opened in Denham Springs this summer. Last Saturday night was no exception, with a 40-minute wait for a table. If you enjoy diving into buffets, then Nagoya Restaurant on Sherwood Forest is a good place to satisfy anyone looking for a Pacific Rim dining experience. Though the name touts its pizza offerings, California Pizza Kitchen has a lot more to offer — pasta, sandwiches, salads and desserts, for instance. If you’re interested in trying something new, check out this fashionable eatery at Perkins Rowe. There’s something to be said for restraint. Enter many a Mexican restaurant and you’re bombarded with hanging sombreros and piñatas, south of the border murals and plastic plants. But not so at Caliente Mexican Craving. Here, the décor is minimalist, tasteful, soothing. Bravo!, a new Italian restaurant by the Mall of Louisiana, lives up to its name. And if not shouts of approval, it certainly deserves applause for serving excellent food in what it calls casual “white tablecloth” dining. Baton Rouge has proved its willingness to embrace the exotic when it comes to eating out, as demonstrated by the large number of Mediterranean restaurants in town. |
