When Broadway director Jeff Calhoun received a call in 2013 about a new musical about a family from West Monroe, he didn’t know much about Duck Dynasty, reports the national gay and lesbian news magazine the Advocate.
When Calhoun and his husband had Willie Robertson over to their apartment to discuss the project, he felt a bond with the star of the A&E’s megahit reality show. He said Robertson told him the family did not agree necessarily with anti-gay statements by Phil Robertson, family patriarch, and he was supportive of having a gay director and gay actors as part of musical.
A spokeswoman confirmed recently that the 90-minute broadway-style musical will end May 17. A statement from the production left open the possibility of traveling to other interested cities or a national tour.
