LAFAYETTE, La. (AP) — The Lafayette Airport Commission is moving forward with plans to build a new terminal.

The project is still several months, perhaps years, from being a reality, as both airport officials and a consulting firm must finalize design plans and determine how the project will be funded. An initial estimate shows the new terminal will cost about $60 million.

Jim Young, a senior project director with URS Corp., which is designing the project, said the new terminal will have a standard layout, with two levels, a new parking structure, a linear concourse and a design that is more energy-efficient and better reflects a “gateway atmosphere” to travelers entering Lafayette.

The presentation was made at Wednesday’s regular meeting of the Lafayette Airport Commission.
