FRANKLINTON (AP) — The Washington Parish Sheriff’s Office says a man is charged with shooting a neighbor and a police officer before setting fire to his mobile home — where the body of a woman was found.
Chief Deputy Mike Haley said it happened Thursday night in Franklinton, where a man robbed and shot the neighbor, who is hospitalized in New Orleans.
Haley identified the suspect as Christopher Dillon, 20, who was booked on two counts of attempted first-degree murder and one of aggravated arson.
Officials say he barricaded himself in his trailer, where a responding Franklinton police officer was shot — in the arm and in his bulletproof vest. His wound was not life-threatening.
Haley said police captured the man as he tried to exit a window after smoke filled the trailer. Firefighters later found the body of a woman believed to be the man’s mother inside. The cause of death has not been released.
Dillon was under a suicide watch, Haley said. Online booking records showed that bond had not been set and information on whether he had an attorney was not available.
