(AP) — First-time claims for unemployment insurance in Louisiana for the week ending Jan. 21 decreased from the previous week’s total.
The state labor department figures released Friday show the initial claims decreased to 3,343 from the previous week’s total of 3,969. The figure was lower than it was for the comparable week a year earlier, when there were 3,934 initial claims.
The four-week moving average, which is a less volatile measure of claims, increased to 3,726 from the previous week’s total of 3,708.
Continued unemployment claims claimed for the week ending Jan. 21 totaled 43,211, a decrease from 44,351 the previous week. The four-week moving average for such claims increased to 43,928 from 43,896.
