Destrehan High School student shot, killed Wednesday night; suspect arrested

A Destrehan High School student was shot and killed Wednesday night near Destrehan, the St. Charles Parish Sheriff’s Office said.

The shooting happened around 8:30 p.m. at East Harding and Eighth streets in New Sarpy. Kendall Williams Jr., 18, a Destrehan High School senior, died at the scene from a gunshot wound to the head, the sheriff’s office said.

Javon D. Wells, 22, of New Sarpy, was arrested in connection with the shooting. He was charged with second-degree murder and is being held at the Nelson Coleman Correctional Center.
