Louisiana’s unemployment rate in August was 7.2 percent, down from July’s rate of 7.6, according to seasonally adjusted figures compiled by the federal Bureau of Labor Statistics.

The Louisiana Workforce Commission says August’s unemployment rate is the state’s lowest this year and marks the third straight month that the rate has dropped.

Last month, the number of people listed as unemployed fell to 146,673, a decrease of 7,525. At the same time, the state’s seasonally adjusted civilian labor force — including the employed and those actively seeking work — fell by 5,699 over the previous month.

The bureau’s survey found that Louisiana’s August unemployment rate tied with Minnesota for 13th lowest in the nation. Louisiana was one of 12 states that recorded a drop in last month’s unemployment rate.
