On a weekend ready-made for Christmas preparations, south Louisiana may have to prepare for some severe weather rolling in.

A front pushing through the area late Saturday and early Sunday could bring strong, or even severe storms, according the the National Weather Service, adding that there’s still uncertainty about the timing and strength of the system.

Showers and thunderstorms start at a 30 percent chance after 7 p.m. Saturday and become likely after 7 a.m. Sunday.

Temperatures remain above average for December, with highs in the 70s, increasing to 76 on Thursday, 78 on Friday and topping out near 80 on Saturday before slipping back to the mid-60s on Monday.
