New tropical depression forms over eastern Atlantic, expected to strengthen _lowres

MIAMI (AP) — Weather forecasters say a new tropical depression has formed over the eastern Atlantic and is expected to strengthen through the weekend.

The U.S. National Hurricane Center said Friday morning it was about 870 miles west-southwest of the Cape Verde Islands, with sustained winds of up to 30 mph. It was moving west-northwest at 9 mph, and posed no threat to land. It is the 10th tropical depression of the season in the Atlantic.

Meanwhile, another tropical depression is weakening, with maximum sustained winds early Friday near 30 mph. It’s expected to become a remnant low by Friday night.

The depression is centered about 1,045 miles east of the Lesser Antilles and is moving north-northwest near 7 mph.
