Louisiana has awarded contracts to four companies to promote the state as a travel destination.

Lt. Gov. Jay Dardenne said Thursday that almost two dozen companies applied to run the state’s new “Pick Your Passion” campaign. The Department of Culture, Recreation and Tourism selected the award winners based on oral presentations by a short list of finalists.

Dardenne says the low percentage rate the contractors will receive — 5 percent rather than the 10 percent offered in the past — shows fiscal conservatism.

Trumpet of New Orleans will manage a $3.4 million marketing and branding contract. Deveney Communications of New Orleans and Williams Creative Group Inc. of Shreveport will each manage a $200,000 public relations contract. And Miles Media of Sarasota, Fla., will manage a $1 million internet marketing contract.
