Happy winter: Expect wet, warm week leading up the Christmas, with chance of severe weather _lowres

Tis a soggy season ...

As shoppers and party-goers rush toward the culmination of the Christmas season on Friday, they’ll have to contend with showers and thunderstorms -- and high temperatures in the mid-70s.

The forecast for today through Wednesday includes anywhere from a 60 percent to a 90 percent chance of showers, but chances drop to 20 percent on Thursday night.

That may be in time for Christmas Eve merriment, including the bonfires scheduled to be set afire at 7 p.m. Thursday in St. James Parish and surrounding areas. Winds are often the deciding factor when lighting bonfires, and the early forecast for Thursday evening calls for winds from the south around 10 miles per hour.

As for Christmas Day, expect cloudy skies, with a chance of showers and thunderstorms and a high near 75.

Temperatures continue their un-December-like trend, topping out around 77 on Wednesday and dipping only to the low to mid-60s tonight and Tuesday night.
