CONAKRY, Guinea —A medical official said the head of Guinea’s treasury was gunned down as she was driving home.

The forensic doctor who examined the body of Aissatou Boiro after she was brought to the morgue Friday night said she had two bullet wounds to the chest and died of internal bleeding.

He requested anonymity because he was not authorized to speak on the subject.

Siradiou Soiree, a resident of the Kipe neighborhood of Conakry, said he heard shooting and saw a car swerving.

When the ambulance arrived, he said, people removed a woman’s body covered in blood and she was identified as Boiro.

Her colleagues said she had made enemies by launching an investigation into the $1.8 million that went missing from the state coffers.
