KENNER (AP) — A 10-year-old has been arrested for allegedly shooting a 7-year-old as they played video games.
Kenner Police Chief Steve Caraway says the older child was arrested Thursday and later released into his parents’ custody.
The shooting happened Tuesday evening. Caraway says as the children played, the 10-year-old pulled the gun and the weapon discharged. A bullet struck the younger child in the thigh. Caraway says he was treated at an area hospital and released.
The 10-year-old fled the house and discarded the weapon, which police have not yet recovered. Caraway says the child was not cooperative, denied involvement and would not say how he got the weapon. However, he tested positive for gunshot residue.
Caraway says the 10-year-old was arrested for shooting three others with a pellet gun in April.
