HATTIESBURG, Miss. (AP) — At least five people were shot Monday at a restaurant on U.S. Highway 49 in Hattiesburg.

Police have a suspect in custody.

Hattiesburg police spokesman Lt. Eric Proulx said a man walked into Cucos restaurant and opened fire.

“There was no confrontation, there was no exchange of words,” he said.

Proulx said the suspect ran but only got a short distance before police arrived and arrested him. Dispatchers received a call about the shooting at 3:31 p.m., he said.

The alleged shooter’s name was not immediately released and Proulx did not say what charges he might face.
