A flash flood watch is in effect for portions of southeast Louisian as a heavy plume of moisture from the Gulf Of Mexico will remain over the area, setting the stage for prolonged heavy rainfall.

Parishes affected by the watch include Ascension, Assumption, East Baton Rouge, East Feliciana, Iberville, Livingston, Jefferson, Lafourche, Plaquemines, St. Bernard, Terrebonne, Washington, West Baton Rouge and West Feliciana.

A flash flood watch means that condition may develop that lead to flash flooding.

Heavy rain is expected through Thursday afternoon. Rainfall amounts of 3 to 8 inches are possible. Areas that see heavy rainfall within a short time could receive flood water to depths that would impact property and people in those areas.
