300,000 images later, Loyola University photographer is retiring _lowres

Popular New Orleans photographer Harold Baquet died Thursday of complications from cancer at the age of 56, according to an article on WWL-TV.com.

Baquet photographed and documented New Orleans' people, places and culture for more than 30 years.

He was an official photographer for former mayors Ernest "Dutch" Morial and Sidney Barthelemy and later for Loyola University.

Baquet had been battling colon cancer for more than seven years. He retired from Loyola in late 2014, having worked as official university photographer there since 1989.
