The Mystic Krewe of Covington recently hosted their guests at their 67th annual tableau and ball at the Covington Lions Home. This year's guests joined the krewe on a "Hawaiian Holiday."

The court of the 2017 festivities was reintroduced to those in attendance. The queen, Mrs. Brian Keith Smith, was escorted by his majesty of 2017. Maids to her majesty were Misses Joan Marie Ibos, Emily Haydel and Shelby Colleen Smith.

To begin this year's festivities, the Krewe members burst into the ballroom and danced to traditional Carnival tunes.

The captain then appeared from a cloud of smoke in the middle of the room. The sound of his golden whistle marked the beginning of this year's tableau.

King of the Mystic Krewe of Covington 2018 entered the ballroom to resounding applause. His majesty wore a white satin tunic with leg-of-mutton sleeves embossed with appliques and strung sequins. He wore a white and gold cape embossed with a full-color crest of the krewe and accented with rhinestones. His collar, studded with rhinestones and gold sequins, provided a background for his golden crown. Completing the ensemble were golden boots, white gloves and a golden scepter.

The krewe chose as their queen Mrs. Robert René Ferrer. Her majesty wore a floor-length gown with a gold beaded bodice and satin skirt. A gold cape and queen's collar were embossed with appliques, rhinestones and sequins. The outfit was completed with a golden crown with inlaid rhinestones, black opera -length gloves and a golden scepter.

Pages to her majesty were Misses Alexis Gale and Ana Elizabeth Feltes. They wore white satin gowns, white gloves and rhinestone-encrusted tiaras.

Maids to her majesty were Mesdames Sean Ross Pregeant representing the Big Island of Hawaii; William Ellis Simpson, the island of Oahu; David Eugene Alfred, the island of Maui; and Neil Edward Glasgow, the island of Kauai. Each maid was attired in a gown with a Hawaiian theme, hibiscus lei (the state flower of Hawaii), a wrist corsage of orchids and a rhinestone-encrusted tiara

As the ball commenced, Main Street provided the dance music.
