The family of the former Nick’s Original Big Train Bar on Tulane Avenue plans to rebuild the bar and a drive-thru coffee shop on the original site, which is currently vacant, according to a report.

Former owner Nick Castrogiovanni’s grandson, Albert Kattine, has submitted plans for a bar with a restaurant and a 24-hour drive-thru coffee shop at the site, which sits at the corner of Tulane Avenue and South Tonti Street, the Mid-City Messenger reported.

Kattine did not return the Messenger’s request for comment, but the website says a Facebook post confirms the plans.

“The very front will have a coffee shop and small dining/lounging area. The middle portion will be the bar area. It is designed like the long bar that used to be in the old Nick’s. The back will have a beer garden with a lot of outdoor space and a stage for a little live music,” the post said.

The plans will be considered at the City Planning Commission meeting on March 22, the Messenger reported.
