Gathering for the organization’s 50th celebration, the Mystic Krewe of Olympia presented its annual bal masque on Saturday evening at the Castine Center in Mandeville.
Following the presentation of the captain and officers, the krewe made a lively entrance into the ballroom welcoming their guests. In honor of the anniversary, the krewe invited and acknowledged all of the past reigning queens. The captain then signaled the presentation of the royal court.
Zeus L, the 2015 king of Olympia, made a regal entrance, acknowledging his guests as he processed to the throne.
Reigning as queen was Miss Catherine Franklin Hughs, daughter of Mr. and Mrs. Thomas Jude Semmes Hughs. The monarch caught everyone’s eye in her gown of silk, cinched throughout the bodice with cummerbund pleats. Embellishments of pearls, silver seed beads and teardrop Austrian rhinestones encrusted the metallic, floral embroidery on the bodice and skirt. From her royal shoulders fell the traditional Olympia mantle. Completing the impressive raiment were the Medici collar of lace, lochrosen rhinstones and Swarovski crystals, along with the fulgent crown and scepter.
The king and queen reigned from atop a multi-leveled white dais highlighted by an elegantly gathered Austrian curtain.
