The Krewe of Argus staged its annual Galaxy Ball Friday evening in the Great Hall of The Pontchartrain Center. The theme of this year’s festivities was Argus the Superhero!
Captains Lawrence Chehardy and Robert DeViney called the evening’s celebration to order. The pageantry began with the presentation of colors by the Jefferson Parish Sheriff’s Honor Guard and the singing of the national anthem by The Victory Belles, followed by a salute to the men and women of the armed forces.
Reigning as queen of the ball was Miss Madeline Quaid Cvitanovich, daughter of Mr. and Mrs. Tommy Cvitanovich. Mr. Cvitanovich reigned as Argus in 2005.
Reigning as Argus XXXI was Mr. Johnny Matesich.
Her majesty wore an A-line gown of gold silk covered in imported lace with handset pearls and Austrian rhinestones. The dress was styled with a traditional Medici collar of matching lace, trimmed with handset Austrian rhinestones and drop crystals. The mantle completed her ensemble. The queen wore a custom-designed crown and carried a matching scepter.
His majesty was attired in a gold color silk brocade tunic to complement the queen. The traditional tunic-style costume was accented in Swarovski crystals. His mantle, crown and scepter carried the theme of the queen’s.
Maids to her majesty, costumed in keeping with the theme, were Misses Whitney Caroline Appel, daughter of State Sen. and Mrs. Conrad Appel; Robin Marie Chailland, daughter of Mr. and Mrs. Mitchell J. Chailland; Maya Marija Cvitanovich, daughter of Dr. and Mrs. Gerald Cvitanovich, Dr. Cvitanovich had reigned as Argus XIV; Jaulet Jacleen Ebrahimpour, daughter of Mr. Rahim Ebrahimpour and Ms. Tina Borne; Catherine Mary Lulich, daughter of Mr. and Mrs. Anthony J. Lulich Jr.; Sophia Elise Serpas, daughter of Dr. and Mrs. Wallace Serpas III; Landis Rebekah Silva, daughter of Mr. and Mrs. Douglas Silva; and Savannah Leigh Watermeier, daughter of Dr. and Mrs. John J. Watermeier.
Junior maids to her majesty were Misses Sydney Christina Pannagl , daughter of Mr. Curt Pannagl and Ms. Robin Pannagl; Callie Klaire Cvitanovich, daughter of Mr. and Mrs. Cvitanovich and sister of the queen; Caroline Klara and Kacie Ivana Cvitanovich, daughters to Dr. and Mrs. Cvitanovich and cousins of the queen.
Royal princesses to her majesty were Misses Madeline Ann-Marie Lirette, daughter of Mr. and Mrs. Kevin Lirette ; Kira Juliet Mixon, daughter of Mr. Warren Mixon and Ms. Lauren Howat Mixon; and Arabella Mary Guillory, daughter of Mr. Scott Guillory and Ms. Jennifer Persson Guillory.
The squire to his majesty was Master Christian Curt Pannagl, son of Mr. Pannagl and Ms. Robin Pannagl.
Pages to his majesty were Masters Joseph McCain DeViney, son of Capt. and Mrs. DeViney; and Brady Joseph Solomon, son of Mr. and Mrs. Mark Solomon Jr.
A special envoy to the king was Drago Joseph Cvitanovich, son of Dr. and Mrs. Cvitanovich.
The captains began the night with the sound of their whistle as they entered the ballroom in black silk tunics. Their costumes were complete with stand up collars and matching floor-length capes. They wore a traditional rhinestone dome with black fantasia plumes with black mask and drape. The capes were accented with silver beading and rhinestone appliques in the shape of fleurs de lis.
After the presentation of the court, members and guests enjoyed an evening of music and merriment.
