The Krewe of Isis held its annual bal masque last evening in the Preservation Hall Ballroom of the New Orleans Marriott.
With “Celebrating the Seasons” as the theme, the ladies of the krewe celebrated the unique seasons near and dear to them — “Snowball Season,” “Oscar Season,” “Crawfish Season,” “Festival Season,” “Christmas,” “Tax Season,” “Harvest Season” and “Carnival Season,” to name a few.
Reigning as Queen Isis XLIV was Mrs. Donna Conino Black. Her majesty was gowned in ivory satin and imported gold beaded lace that featured intricate designs of antique gold seed beads, sequins and aurora borealis rhinestones. The fit-and-flare gown had a sweetheart neckline with a beaded and sequined illusion overlay. At the neckline was an impressive Medici collar of heavy beaded gold lace covered with crystals and accented with aurora borealis stones. Her mantle and encrusted custom crown complemented the motif of her gown.
Reigning as King Isis XLIV was Mr. Claude Lawrence Black. His majesty wore a tunic of ivory with gold accents and gold trim. His heavily appliquéd tunic was adorned with rhinestones, crystals and hand beading and featured stone-encrusted appliqués. In keeping with tradition, his ensemble also featured a Medici collar of gold, accented with crystals and aurora borealis stones. His mantle and golden crown complemented the tunic.
The maids of the royal court represented some of the seasons. Each was gowned in white accented with rhinestones, crystals and gold metallic embroidered thread details. The members of the court presented were Mrs. Andrea Black Barbrey representing “Carnival Season”; Ms. Natasha Marie Muller, representing “Crawfish Season”; Miss Alyssa Nicole Roux, daughter of Mr. and Mrs. David A. Roux Jr., representing “Oscar Season”; and Mrs. Samantha Black Youngs, representing “Christmas Season.”
