Southern Rep, in collaboration with the New Orleans Center for Creative Arts Stage Company, launches its 31st season with the regional premiere of the enormously popular musical “Fun Home.”

Based on the celebrated graphic memoir “Fun Home: A Family Tragicomic” by Alison Bechdel and recipient of multiple 2015 Tony awards including Best Musical and Best Score, “Fun Home” tells the moving story of Alison at three different stages in her life, as she explores the mysteries of her childhood, sexuality and complex relationship with her volatile, contradictory father.

This refreshingly honest musical with a stunning score by Jeanine Tesori (“Caroline, or Change”) and a heartbreaking book by lyricist Lisa Kron (“Well”) received worldwide acclaim.

“A rare beauty,” wrote the New York Times, “extraordinary and heart-gripping.”

Southern Rep producing artistic director Aimee Hayes believes in the power of “Fun Home” to stir New Orleans audiences.

“I love how this play is unafraid to take on challenging issues,” says Hayes. “And it does so with music, humor and hope.”

With musical direction by Jefferson Turner, Blake Coheley directs a cast including Leslie Castay, Jason Dowies, Chrissy Bowen, Taylor Lewis and Camille Burkey.
