A new Uptown restaurant developed by a local restaurant group plans to open later this month.
Cavan, described as a “classic coastal American restaurant,” will open for dinner and drinks during the week of Feb. 15, according to a news release. It will be the fourth project by New Orleans-based hospitality group LeBlanc + Smith, which also runs Meauxbar, the Chartres Street gastropub Sylvain and the Lower Garden District bar Barrel Proof.
Chef Kristen Essig will lead the kitchen at Cavan, located in a historic townhouse at 3607 Magazine St. Essig is executive chef at the French Quarter bistro Meauxbar, and she will continue in that position as she runs Cavan.
Dishes will range from traditional seafood, including a daily gumbo, whole grilled fish and fried oysters; to grilled pork chops, a half chicken and bone-in ribeye, the news release said.
“The cuisine at Cavan will celebrate the flavors of the nation’s coasts,” Essig said in the news release. “We want our guests to feel always at home here at Cavan, so there will be a familiarity with our food, but we’ll add a few surprises that elevate the ingredients and flavors. We’re hoping our guests walk away thinking that our interpretations are fresh, both in taste and style, but still very comforting.”
Hours will be 4-11 p.m. Monday through Friday (drinks start at 4 p.m.; dinner at 5 p.m.); 5 p.m.-midnight Friday and Saturday; and 5-10 p.m. Sunday. Service will expand to lunch and brunch hours in the coming months, the news release said.
