The World War II Museum’s Stage Door Canteen will host two performances of “The Accidental Hero,” on Friday and Saturday at 8 p.m. and 11 a.m., respectively. Both can be accompanied with a meal from the American Sector restaurant.

This multimedia play tells the true story of American soldier Matt Konop, who grew up in a Czech family. During World War II, he returns to the Czech town where his grandparents lived and helps liberate them from the Axis forces, all the while struggling with his family history and personal identity.

The show is performed and was developed by Konop’s grandson, Patrick Dewane, who drew from his grandfather’s memoir that was discovered 20 years after his death.

The show is told via never-before-seen color film footage from World War II, period music and photography.
