The New Orleans version of Wizard World Comic Con — which hosts conferences in more than 20 cities across the United States — is by turns a celebrity-gawking festival, gamer gathering, trade show, massive tattoo parlor, movie sneak preview and even a tune-up for Mardi Gras, considering all of the costuming that goes on throughout the weekend.

Many of the celebrities hold Q&A panels — for the “Captain America” cast and “Dr. Who” and “Gotham” actors — or solo Q&A moments for such stars as William Shatner, Bruce Campbell, Jon Bernthal, Scott Wilson, Barry Bostwick and Edward James Olmos.

In keeping with the costuming vibe of the weekend, there will be “cosplay” instruction seminars hosted by Wizard World’s Damian Beurer and other professionals over the course of the weekend.

New Orleans groups get in on the Comic Con excitement, as well. The Intergalactic Krewe of Chewbacchus will present the Chewbacchus Wizard World Comic Con NOLA After Party at the Howlin’ Wolf on Saturday, with entertainment from Space Metal, Orions Envy and the Swamp Donkeys.

Also, “nerdlesque” performance troupe The Society of Sin will present “Doctor Who-Ha: A Doctor Who Burlesque Play,” written by Xena Zeit-Geist, at 9 p.m. Sunday at Eiffel Society, 2040 St. Charles Ave.
