An Uptown burger institution is closing its doors this weekend.

Bud's Broiler, located at 3151 Calhoun Street, will close Sunday, according to a report from Uptown Messenger. The restaurant specializing in charbroiled burgers will be replaced with an expansion of the Caribbean themed eatery El Libre.

Bud's Broiler first opened in that location in 1978.

The restaurant will be shuttered for up to three months, according to the report. Jason Qader, who owns the Uptown location as well as another on the west bank he plans to sell, is going to retire, the report said.

The Bud's Broiler location near City Park operates under different ownership and will not be affected.
