Uptown saw a pair of abrupt restaurant closures this week.
The coal-fired pizza spot Amici Ristorante & Bar shuttered on Magazine Street after a revamp and change in ownership last summer. Meanwhile, on Prytania Street, the Flying Pig Café closed after about four months in business.
Amici had seen a few changes since opening in 2013 at 3218 Magazine St., the address that was for many years home to location of Byblos, the local Middle Eastern eatery.
In July, the restaurant was purchased by Felix’s Restaurant Group, the company behind the historic Felix’s Restaurant & Oyster Bar in the French Quarter. It closed for an overhaul after the transition and reopened in July with a similar menu, led by pizza from a coal-fired oven.
What’s next for the space is still unknown. A manager for the parent company said no decisions had yet been made for the location.
The Flying Pig Café opened Sept. 1 at 4920 Prytania St., an address that for more than 20 years prior had been the popular Japanese restaurant Kyoto.
The concept for the Flying Pig was a Southern-style neighborhood café, with Latin, Caribbean and Asian flavors in the mix.
The restaurant space is in a busy Uptown stretch with a collection of longtime restaurants and a few that have seen turnover. A few doors up the street, the former location of ManhattanJack, which closed over the summer, is now a location of Gracious Bakery + Café.
