DETAILS: LSU basketball legend and fitness guru Rudy Macklin and Whitney Vann will emcee the event. LSU cheerleaders will be special guests. There will be family activities, such as kickboxing warm-ups, interactive science experiments, research opportunities, a photo booth, face painting, games and obstacle courses for kids.
WHAT: Lafayette Free to Breathe 5K
WHEN: Registration and check-in starts at 6:30 a.m. Saturday, Sept. 26
WHERE: River Ranch Town Square, 1100 Camellia Blvd., Lafayette
REGISTRATION: freetobreathe.org. Online registration closes Wednesday, Sept. 23. Cost is $25; $15 for ages 12 and younger. Event day cost is $30; $20 for youngsters.
DETAILS: Kids’ activities and awards are also part of the event. All proceeds support Free to Breathe, a nonprofit lung cancer research and advocacy organization dedicated to surviving lung cancer.
DETAILS: A 5K suitable for all fitness levels. Participants will conquer 12 obstacles across 3.24 miles, with many raising money for St. Jude Children’s Research Hospital. Obstacles include the Great Warrior Wall, a 14-foot wall, climbed only with the assistance of a rope, slick with the mud of the battleground; Goliath, the event’s largest obstacle ever, featuring a two-story balance beam and 30-foot-high slide into warrior infested, muddy water; Muddy Mayhem, the 100-foot-long mud pit under real barbed wire.
